When my wife and I bought our current home in Humbolt Park, Chicago, the kitchen didn't originally come with a dishwasher.

I purchased the Bosch dishwasher shortly after and installed it using the existing plumbing.

My wife and I were thrilled to be first-time homeowners in Grand Rapids, MI back in 2020. However, the exterior hadn't been repainted in years, and we weren't fans of the '80s baby blue look.

We chose my wife's favorite color scheme (earthy/sage green), and then I power-washed the entire exterior before repainting the entire house.

The basement of our current home in Chicago was in a terrible state when we first bought it. The paint in the kitchen was patchy, and the cabinets and floor tiling were very dated.

The living room of our first-ever house in Grand Rapids, MI, had carpet that had slight smell from the previous owners' pets.

I ripped up all the carpet and installed vinyl flooring.

The basement unit's bathroom in our current home in Chicago was very dated and dirty-looking.

Back when my wife and I did some freelance dog sitting on the Rover app, we befriended a client who recently bought a home. For some reason, all the light switches were broken when they purchased it.

We surprised them one day and repaired all of them.

My Process
David writes about how he grew up being handy, and how he researches jobs he doesn't know how to complete and is confident about his ability to learn quickly on the job. He is honest about what he can and can't do. We prefer to price by projects (especially for bigger jobs) for the most part to make room for learning as we go.
